Chocolate-Covered Cherry Smoothie
This smoothie takes me back to the not-so-healthy days of my youth, when I would always grab the little foil-wrapped chocolate-covered cherries out of a box of chocolates as my first choice for an indulgence. This drink is healthy enough to enjoy for breakfast, but still guaranteed to satisfy your cravings for a real treat at any time of the day. Add unflavored, raw protein powder, if desired.
1 cup frozen cherries,* pits removed
1 banana, peeled, cut into pieces and frozen
1 cup coconut milk, nut milk or filtered water
¼ cup raw cacao powder
1 tbs liquid sweetener (optional)
¼ tsp lemon juice (optional)
Pinch Himalayan or sea salt (optional)
Pinch vanilla bean powder (optional)
Place all ingredients into a high-speed blender and blend until smooth, adding additional filtered water only if needed. Top cherry smoothie with cacao nibs, raw granola, or raw nuts and seeds for visual interest and a bit of a ‘crunch.’ Enjoy immediately. Serves 2.
